Angiomas

Most angiomas do not require treatment. However, it is sensible to have a new or changing spot assessed if it bleeds repeatedly, grows quickly, looks different from your other lesions or if you are uncertain about the diagnosis. Not every red spot is an angioma, and examination can distinguish it from other vascular lesions or skin growths.

• A spot that bleeds after minor friction
• A lesion that changes noticeably in size, shape or colour
• Multiple new lesions appearing suddenly
• A red or purple growth that causes cosmetic concern

Where removal is appropriate, options may include electrosurgery, cautery, laser or another minor procedure, depending on the lesion and skin type. Dr De Jager will explain the likely outcome and possible risks, including temporary crusting, pigment change or scarring. Angiomas should not be cut or treated at home.
