Scars
Dermaporium assesses acne, surgical, traumatic, raised and sunken scars and provides individualised treatment to improve their appearance or symptoms.
A scar is the skin’s natural response to injury, surgery or inflammation. Scars can be flat, raised, sunken, stretched, darker or lighter than the surrounding skin. Some settle with time, while others remain itchy, painful, tight or cosmetically distressing.
Different scars need different treatment
Scar treatment is not one-size-fits-all. The best approach depends on the type of scar, its age and location, your skin tone, symptoms and tendency to form keloids. Dr De Jager will also consider whether an active condition, such as acne, should be controlled before scar treatment begins.
Signs or concerns may include
- Raised hypertrophic or keloid scars
- Sunken or textured acne scars
- Dark or light marks following inflammation or injury
- Scars that itch, hurt, restrict movement or continue to enlarge
Treatment at Dermaporium
Options may include silicone therapy, corticosteroid injections, prescription skin care, chemical peels, microneedling, laser treatment or minor surgical procedures. A combination of treatments and several sessions may be required. No treatment can erase a scar completely, but appropriate care can often improve colour, texture, thickness or discomfort.
