Telangiectasia (Visible Facial or Spider Veins)

Visible vessels are often harmless, but their distribution and associated symptoms can help identify an underlying skin condition. Dr De Jager will assess whether the vessels occur alone or with facial flushing, redness, inflammation, skin sensitivity or other signs that require treatment.

• Persistent fine red lines on the nose, cheeks or chin
• Visible vessels associated with rosacea or frequent flushing
• New vessels developing after sun exposure or skin injury
• Bleeding, pain or rapid change in a vascular-looking lesion

Depending on the cause, site and vessel size, management may include trigger control, sun protection, treatment of an underlying condition or a vascular procedure such as laser or electrosurgery. More than one session may be required, and new vessels can develop over time. Results and risks vary with vessel type and skin tone.
